Pancake Day

Pancake Day is a fun time for all the family! As healthy eating is always on our mind at Angels, we thought we would share some healthy but tasty toppings to try this year!

Making pancakes healthy can start from the beginning! Starting simple, such as swapping out plain white flour for wholewheat and oat based flours can make the batter healthier. Likewise, using skimmed or semi-skimmed milk instead of whole fat, and cooking using vegetable oil instead of butter, reduces how much fat is in pancakes.

As for toppings, you can try anything! Savoury or sweet pancakes are popular nowadays, and we would love to see what you try at home by having you upload your pancake day photos to Tapestry.

At Angels, we recommend creating a pancake station, with fruits such as bananas, blueberries, and strawberries, and sweet treats such as honey and small amounts of chocolate. This allows your child to choose their own food and builds decision making skills. By doing this, you make the activity more interactive - it offers an alternative to your child helping to cook the pancakes, which can sometimes be too difficult for younger children.

Have a look below at how we set up our pancake creation station for inspiration! We can’t wait to see how you participate at home.
